Germantown is a city in Montgomery County, Ohio which is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical area. Germantown is within German township in the southern part of Montgomery County. The city lies in an area of Montgomery county known as Twin Valley. German Settlers from the area of Berks County, Pennsylvania founded Germantown. The Gunckel Town Plan, has maintained many of Germantown’s  original 19th and 20th century buildings. Many of these are the National Register of Historic Places. The downtown area of Germantown which contains its By-Jo Theatre is also on the national register of historic places.
